The Search Essay example -- Creative Writing Search and Rescue Essays

The Search      I used to work for the F.B.I., in the Portland office. It was my youth dream to be the person who gets the trouble maker. My fiftieth birthday celebration was in only three months. I had a spouse and three kids, despite everything do, and a similar activity I'd had since my graduation from Quantico. We were living simply outside Portland. My most seasoned child, John jr., was in his third year at Washington. The twins were secondary school seniors right now and my unparalleled delight, daddy's daughters. Carolyn and I had commended our twenty- fifth commemoration, that is the silver one I think, the past Thursday night. That warm July morning, I dressed for fill in as I had each other. Dark socks and slacks, a pin striped white dress shirt, and a dark coat. I slipped on my loafers however was lost in the quest for my tie. Espresso recolored and still unwashed, I discovered it laying on the pantry floor. I promised to myself to let Carolyn think about that. I strolled into John's unfilled room, knowing he possessed a few ties. It was similarly as he had left it, I surmise, since I'd never truly gone in his room. I picked the red one he wore in his graduation pictures and slipped it over my head. I ventured into the restroom, brushed back my brightening hair, and left for the workplace. The early morning sun shone in through the messed up blinds that I took note hadn't been supplanted as I inquired. I investigated the heap of administrative work anticipating me. â€Å"Why the hellfire do I gotta do all these damn reports?† As a matter of fact, you don't, not today. I went to see a man a lot of such as myself, be that as it may, more seasoned and with his piece on. He was somewhat taller, however with the equivalent drooping highlights and huge stomach of my body. â€Å"I've come here to give you something new.† With that, I was given a thick manila organizer. It had a feeling that it contained a video tape. â€Å"All you need is in there, including my card. This is top need, Agent Caulsworth. You will answer to me on the hour with your progress. The desk work here will wait.† The man turned and left. Outside, I heard a fly copter discreetly lift off. Interesting I hadn't heard it land. I spilled out the substance of the organizer, the government articulation, a case history, vid tape, and a dossier. The card that tumbled to the floor read 'Government Marshall Wilson R. Franklin'. He was from the Boise office. Must be genuine significant for him to come such a distance out here. Steve Menschke was my most established fr... ...was the main thing that made a difference to me, and he's everything that is left.      I ventured into my pocket and pulled back the tie. Mud covered the red texture. I attempted to consider John. My brain stressed to see his face, hear his voice. A tear moved down my cheek and tumbled off my jawline onto the tie. I relaxed the bunch and slipped it back over my head. With my sleeve, I cleaned my face. I lifted the spotlight, turned it off and hurled it to him. Take it. I dismissed and began once again into the world. Hendricks' group discovered me a couple of miles west of the gap. They transported me to the Olympia emergency clinic. I was treated for a messed up clavicle and shoulder bone, alongside my ribs. The tissue harm to my back and side was broad and I have little utilization of either. Following two days they discharged me. The following day, I got a call from Franklin, in Boise. I was praised by him for risking myself. He allowed me early retirement, and a reward for being harmed. He inquired as to whether I may know anything about the vanishing of David Brown from his grandparents' home in the night. I disclosed to him I didn't. I say goodbye to him, hung up, and dialed John's number at school.

MoraWarfare, Murder and Minima

MoraWarfare, Murder and Minima Some Moral Minima Home›Research Posts›Some Moral Minima Research PostsIntroductionLenn Goodman had challenges anyone about universal global justice in our very competitive and yet diverse world. In his research about global and societal good, he comes across a former scholar, Bimal Matilal now in a wheel chair, who despite challenges in health comes up with four main norms that should be considered for universal support; Rejection of adultery, defense of truth, Respect for life,   as well as   abhorrence of   theft. Mr. Bimal drew these from the very rich religious and philosophical Indian traditions, as well as working hard not to rely on any ones divinity. In essence, Matilal’s aim was consensus without any form of compromise of principle.Goodman brings us to task and even challenges that had the Americans taken such critical considerations and self consciousness before it gained independence and wrote its constitution that would never have happened, if it were to factor in slavery. This he says is the main game play of American politics as well as law, since there is so much compromise in our political class and activities due to personal interest(Lenn 2010). Our legal framework on the other hand is embedded in this, because not every compromise is tolerable nor praise worthy since ambiguity itself has become appoint of juridical tactic as well as law itself, thereby leaving the most important issues away from the big picture.Mr. Goodman who had been participating in a symposium with fellow philosophers, who took turns to present their thoughts as well as ideal ideas for which would make people embrace good morals as well as upright ethical mannerisms. This is because in recent times there have been increase in violence in the world in proportions never seen before and has been facilitated by difference in ideologies such as religion, political issues such as communism and capitalist. Facts such as these have never been so true, from the cold war to t he now very recent war on terror and suicide bombers. All these is are as a result of one country or religion thinking that they are better than the other. Now the whole purpose of brainstorming by the philosophers was how wills the world with its very diverse population, governments and religious ideas reach a common consent and tolerance. This is because despite many compromises made by various communities or religion in order to accommodate another people there are still challenges that put as apart as a community. Truth be told, there is no over-reaching norm of practice as well as practice that guides as wholly as one people, and without compromise, from what is wrong from right. How do we draw the line and bring all of us to a common consent. The common consent is critical but being unanimous is not sufficient nor does it meet the threshold for proper standard of moral universality. Relativity of it must be taken into account, considering the diversity of any community. This is due to the fact that people want their interests to be taken to account. In our societies however the disparities between rich and poor, as well as young and poor may never fully bring this to be due to one side feeling sidelined or the powerful steer matters as well as situation in their own favor.Warfare, Murder and GenocideFrom the discussion Goodman is absolutely right in the examples that he puts forward that include; slavery, polygamy and incest, terrorism, hostage taking and child warriors as well as genocides, politically induced famine and germ warfare put ones moral stand into task. This is because as one is put between a rock and a hard place as one as why do some things happen or why should one (government) be behind some of these acts. Ones morality is shaken when one discovers that governments would engage in very atrocious acts jus to be ahead of others. He says that murder is wrong but warfare may not be always be wrong as it may be a form of necessity to protect th e subjects in question. So where does one draw the line? He puts it clear, murder is simply wrong as one ends a person’s life. Warfare on the other hand may be a necessary action to deter one side from carrying out its wrongful and atrocious actions. The problem is that war is subject to a lot of dynamics and more often than not rapidly escapes control (Lenn, 2010). There is this form of illusion that war is a device while weapons are themselves only tools. This therefore leads to escalation of war to proportions that strip the   moral barriers of those in combat. Rules of engagement are often ignored and war becomes the only form of diplomacy. In far as war is continues all forms   of wrongs will happen, everyone in say an invaded country becomes the enemy, the worst being even teenagers and young children as well as women will more often than not suffering the full brutal force of the war. Mass rapes, sodomy, as well as murder of children and women are common wherever war rages s ince it always lies in the intent. In several cases war escalates to a genocide campaign, some examples include the Rwanda massacred of 1994 where 800000 lives were terminated as a community tried to exterminate the other, or the Soviets in Ukraine. As one can tell from the examples it’s all about difference in ideas or when one community feels superior.ConclusionFrom the example one is challenged on what is wrong and right or what may seem wrong but an absolutely necessary action and how should we carry out these actions. We must look at our intentions as well as morality and more so consider the consequences of these actions.

Women Life Isn’t Fair Essays - 1817 Words

Throughout the centuries, women have been relegated to roles as mothers and housewives. Any women who do not conform to society’s chauvinistic and harsh rules suffer alienation and are considered to be sluts or unlovable independents. These unfair tenets imposed by society do not allow women to be free in how they live. After experiencing an â€Å"awakening†, Edna Pontellier struggles to find her place in a society that does not allow for women to be anything other than compliant wives. She cannot see herself as another submissive woman in her Creole society; rather, she would like to choose her own path. Kate Chopin, in The Awakening, illustrates that women are unable to live their lives as they see fit through Edna’s struggle to cope with†¦show more content†¦This type of woman is the accepted social norm. In rebellion against the idea that women should be restricted to motherly duties, Edna begins to neglect her children and family obligations. One of these family obligations is to receive callers. When her husband asks who called, Edna Pontellier responds, â€Å"‘There were a good many’†¦Ã¢â‚¬ËœI found their cards when I got home; I was out’† (Chopin 68). The protagonist of the story flagrantly abandons her duties in order to pursue the things that she finds to be more interesting because she believes that the duties assigned to her do not allow her to express herself or live as she pleases. After breaking from her societal role, those around her begin to condemn her desertion of duty. Mr. Pontellier responds to his wife’s lack of receiving callers and neglect of their children by saying, â€Å"‘it seems to me the utmost folly for a woman at the head of a household, and the mother of children, to spend in an atelier days which would be better employed’† (Chopin 76-77). Edna’s husband’s, a representative of traditional Creole values, berating of his wife il lustrates that her nonchalance towards their family is not acceptable in their society. For Leonce Pontellier, â€Å"a discourse for the redefinition of female roles does not exist† (Muirhead). Lesson Before Dying Character Analysis Essay - 952 Words

Character Analysis Essay: Grant Wiggins of â€Å"A Lesson Before Dying† Grant Wiggins is very conflicted and confused about many aspects of his life when he comes back to his home town. Despite his reluctance, he is eventually forced to overcome his defeatist attitude and accept the sense of responsibility that Tante Lou and Miss Emma are trying to instill in him. Grant is also haunted by his past having grown up in a very racist small town which he could never find a way to deal with. I think that he is trying to get over the negative experiences that he had during his childhood in Bayonne by moving†¦show more content†¦(Gaines 141). This quote illustrates how Grant pushes everybody away when he does not immediately see the positive results of his helping Jefferson or the children. By the end of the story, it is clear that Mr. Gaines has employed a very effective allegory to associate Jefferson’s death as a martyr with Jesus Christ’s sacrificial death to save the souls of the earth. One apparent parallel between the two is the close proximity of their execution dates, Jefferson being terminated 2 weeks after Easter. The fact that Grant considers himself to be better than all of the black residents of Bayonne is one of the many things that holds Grant back from being an effective coach to assist Jefferson in his quest to become a man. Another contributing factor to his ineffective teaching is his lack of self confidence. If Jefferson does not see a worthy example of how to be a man, then he will never effectively become one himself. After a few visits to see Jefferson in his cell, persevering through his own belief that he is not making a difference, being told that he was wasting his time, he realized that he was doing much more than performing a favor for Miss Emma and Tante Lou. He realize d that he wasn’t only trying to turn Jefferson into a man. EICHER SCHOOL HOLIDAY HOMEWORK CLASS – VIII ENGLISH Q1Read the newspaper article and answer the questions that follow: Ban is the correct move 10 Feb 2009, Vikram Sinha The move by the central government to finally introduce an amendment to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, prohibiting the use of cell phones while driving, has materialized. There is an assumption that it is the physical hindrance caused by conversing on the phone while driving that is the main safety hazard. Rather, the issue is the mental distraction of the driver. The US is pushing all its states to implement a similar ban. For evidence, it cites several studies, such as one by the university of Utah, which prove that using hands-free devices is as dangerous as speaking on cell phone without them. Another study cited by the report establishes why this so. It states that conversing with a fellow passenger is not dangerous and many instead lead to greater safety. The reason for this is simple enough . a co-passenger is likely to keep an eye on the road, adjust or stop danger. A person at the other end of a phone connection cannot do this. The conservation will remain unchanged, demanding the driver’s attention and lessening his focus on the road at the moment when he might need it the most. The introduction of such a specific law in India is long overdue. And now that one is finally being introduced, the Ministry of Road Transport and highways is taking the correct step by being thorough. The following are the steps that Zenith Business Pty Ltd, the company can lodge its returns to the Australian Tax Office by using the following ways; first is by using a standard business reporting (SBR) Software as required for a company. Second, the business management can opt to file its taxes by using paper. The other way that the company may use to file income tax to the Australia Tax Office is by using a registered tax agent. Before meeting officers from Australia Tax Office, Zenith Business Pty Ltd directors must first check when the company's tax return is due. This might be done through a tax agent if the company lodged its income tax through a registered tax agent. For a company, 31st October is the date set aside to clear any outstanding tax returns. Second step; the company directors should ensure that they have they have all reports of the company in regards to taxable income, it is also advisable if they have documents and reports showing the company's PAYG installments, credits, and tax offsets and the amount that is refundable to show the officers(Quick Tax Lodgement Services, 2004) . The last step is for the directors to ensure that they have supporting documents that may be asked by tax officers through a letter of schedule. For example, supporting documents for capital gains, documents on foreign source income, offsets, dividend income, supporting documents for taxable payments annual reporting e.t.c.
